Abuse comes in many forms from different people. More often than not, the people who you thought would care for you and protect you are the ones who would physically, emotionally, and verbally abuse you. This is what Sarah Griffin faced and fortunately managed to survive while striving for greatness.
Live With Mama Coco will talk to Sarah Griffin as she shares how she uses struggles as fuel to succeed in life, this Saturday, January 30, at 8:30 PM Trinbago time.
Born in Arima, Trinidad, and Tobago, Sarah Griffin always wanted to prove to the people who made her feel worthless that she could be something more. Sarah was bullied and was literally called “Nobody” because she was born with a cleft palate. A natural-born fighter, Sarah persisted and was accepted to The Caribbean Academy of Fashion Design where she successfully completed her studies in fashion design. She then became part of the cohort at Fashion TT, where she learned everything about the business of fashion. She also attended YTEPP (Youth Training and Employment Partnership Programme) Ltd., Trinidad and Tobago's leading technical and vocational training institution, to do graphic design and Entrepreneurship Management; leading to her becoming one of the executives at the League of Extraordinary Entrepreneurs.
After completing her studies, Sarah faced another challenge in life: a business partner lied and stole from her. Consequently, Sarah was left having to retool and start from scratch. She founded her business, SEG Enterprises International, in January 2019, and today, she focuses on upcycling and recycling fashion and accessories. That same year, Sarah also ventured into another business. She was chosen by an international company to become one of the exclusive brokers for Smart Home - Alpha Cube Technology - in Trinidad and Tobago. Additionally, she is now one of the Directors of a Real Estate Company called PropSOLV Realty Ltd.
Sarah’s quest to always strive harder and move forward enabled her to realize her dreams in life. After having been subjected to bullying herself, she started a campaign called “Cutie With A Clefty” to reach out, inspire and motivate all people affected by Cleft Palate and other Differently Abled persons.

Being Me !

In life we hope for better and sometimes the worse comes , I grew up not having everything but I knew about working for what you want.

I thrive for years in trying to be me , having an impediment that made me felt like nothing , people mocked and tease me made me felt worthless and I lacked self esteem.

Now people asked "why were you treated that badly " the truth of the matter is , if I have found myself of course that won't matter if anyone understood me but life is not fair and it won't ever be fair !

At age 17 years , I found myself aiming for betterment yet still lacking the self esteem to move forward .

I worked in my late dad's garage , and I wanted to get out of home because of my mom behaviour towards me

I worked in factories and eventually did courses . Reaching to levelling up ! I keep doing my best , I happen to have a miscommunication with my mom and that lead to having me out from my parents home to live with my boyfriend's parents ,something I didn't want happen , but it happened ...

I am so thankful I'm still with my Boyfriend now husband for 18years and forward !

No one will understand me however I'm motivated to becoming better , everything I have thought about it happened , I wanted to become a designer , be in real estate , a marketer , a mom , a wife ...it's amazing how you can ask for things and they come to reality .

Being a clefty has made me who I am today I fought great , from being in spiritual pains to physical pains however I have overcome !

Don't ever give up cause one day you will overcome , a next level will start but you will make it just as the first

Keep moving forward !!

Till again !

Cutie with a clefty

Some may wonder , what is a clefty?

A clefty is someone that was born with a cleft palate or clef lip , it affects your speech and sometimes left with a speech impediment !

Some asked " can you fix it ? "

Yes it can be fixed , however I did one operation and it open back , I was a baby and went through a major surgery to fix my palate , however it open as I grew older and I'm left with a hole at the roof of my mouth !

Do you have complications ? Yes I do , all the time , food stuff goes up there , if I drink too fast water can drown me , I can't wash my hair as any normal person but I get it done , I can't swim but I enjoy myself at the beach or river ! I learnt to love myself and love who I am !
My speech is a bit impaired but my business partners and my family understands me .
I take my time and talk so the words can be cleared ...
I'm grew to love me and I grew to overcome the hate the was inflicted on my life through people that bullied me and made fun of me , nevertheless I have many to live for as I heard the voice that spoke to me when I was about to kill myself !
I am now thankful and happy to be who I am today !!
